Have you ever tried to explain True Blood to someone who has never seen the show before? Do they look confused by the time you’re done? Vulture caught up with Nelsan Ellis at the premiere of his film The Butler earlier this week to talk to him about True Blood and even he admitted he gets confused. The actor portrays fan favorite Lafayette Reynolds on the HBO series and said that it was hard to keep track of the 15 storylines last year even though he read the script and shot the scenes. But Nelsan told Vulture that season 6 is really about going back to the core of the show and bringing everyone back together which is what he says this year sets up. He also promised that there would be more Lafayette in season 7!
Despite playing a confident and flamboyant character on TV, Nelsan got a bit flustered when it came to speaking with Oprah, his Butler co-star. When she told him that he would have big shoes to fill playing Martin Luther King Jr., he couldn’t find the words to respond:
“I was like, Ohmigod, ohmigod, ohmigod,” he said, reenacting how he gasped to himself as she walked away. “I get nervous around people, especially celebrities. And I think Oprah is queen of the universe. I think she sits on the balcony of the heavens.”
