Pamela De Beaufort’s portrayer Kristin Bauer van Straten reveals that season four will see a much more calm and calculating vampire. But in the second part of Wet Paint’s interview with Kristin, she assures us that while Pam may think before acting, she hasn’t gone soft. (The first part can be found here)
Why is it that fans think our favorite sharp tongued vampire went a little soft? At this year’s Paley Festival, Alan Ball gave fans a little taste of season 4 that showed protesters from the Fellowship of the Sun protesting outside of Fangtasia. Pam, Hoyt (Jim Parrack), and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) come out to see what’s going on, only for Hoyt to get into a fight verbally and physically with one of the protesters when he says unkind things about Jessica. The young vampire tries to help him, but Pam stops her. Watch:
Kristin tells us that the reason for Pam’s more cautious behavior stems from the infamous Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) diatribe in season 3 whereupon he rips out the spine of a human news anchor. Now vampires have to be more discreet about harming their enemies. Speaking of enemies, Pam has racked up at least one more after the latest waiting sucks clip was released on Saturday. This new clip shows Pam demanding that Marnie (Fiona Shaw) fix Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgård) amnesiac state, which seems to prove that she cares for Eric very much.
With Eric no longer himself this season, Pam will have the opportunity to interact with other characters giving Kristin a chance to work other cast members. So who would else would she like to work with? Of it she says:
“All of them! I have never been part of such a huge group of so many kind and talented people. There isn’t a bad apple in the bunch. I have LOVED working with Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Anna (Paquin), Stephen, Nelsan (Ellis), and Deborah (Ann Woll). I am also very excited about this Pam-Tara (Rutina Wesley) action that (writer) Alan (Ball) hinted about!”
Wet Paint also asked if Eric and Pam shared a sexual history like other progeny/maker pairings on the show such as Bill (Stephen Moyer) and Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) or Russell and Talbot (Theo Alexander). In response the actress quoted her character’s response in the True Blood Season 2 Blu-Ray:
“Well, I can tell you in the Season 2 DVD special features, Pam makes a fabulously crass and telling statement about her beginnings with Eric. “When I met Eric, my world split apart and so did my legs.”
But really, who wouldn’t want to have sex with Eric or any of the other male characters that inhabit True Blood for that matter? They are all quite stunning specimens, don’t you agree Truebies?
Another male vampire will be re-joining the True Blood ranks this year with Allan Hyde set to return as Godric. The audience never saw Pam and Godric interact in season two but Kristin believes that Pam places him on “a very high pedestal.” So it should be interesting to see how that relationship will play out.
Outside of True Blood however, Kristin is known for trying to maintain an active relationship with her fans via her Facebook page (The van Stratens) and Twitter (@BauervanStraten) account. One of the things that makes Kristin a great celebrity to follow however, is how much you can learn from her. While she does indeed respond to tweets from fans, she also posts and tweets about issues that mean a lot to her like animal rights or the environment. There are also a few updates about her days on the set of True Blood, lest we fans forget that the show is hard at work preparing season four. And occasionally, you might see Kristin tweeting about her husband, South African musician Abri van Straten. The Lemmings front man released a solo album, Sunlight and Shadows late last year and after listening to it, it’s not hard to see why Kristin is so proud.
